校史館透過校友雙月刊社,再次請教呂學長有關校園習唱「望春風」的淵源,呂學長說:「……從台大早期友愛合唱團及純誼合唱團時代的音樂會,因無校歌,故即興以望春風來唱,久而久之,大家就這樣默認,直到校歌誕生前,都無人異議。」【註‧呂學長文中提到,台大合唱團是整合多個校內合唱團而來:純誼合唱團、工學院合唱團、僑生合唱團、法學院合唱團、醫學院杏林合唱團等等。】
但許多人更想問的是:為什麼是「望春風」雀屏中選地下校歌,而不是其他的歌謠呢?此外,也有校友提出疑問,所謂望春風是地下校歌的傳奇,是僅在合唱團或是音樂性社團圈的共識?還是某段時期校園內共同的認知?看來,這不是件簡單的問題;或許很難有標準答案。

我對該曲被傳唱的源起沒有研究,但對它被當校歌完全不感意外。我認為該曲有幾個特點:
(1) 旋律簡單、動人
(2) 歌詞生動、幽默,而且“很台”!
(3) 流傳最廣──應是台灣人最熟悉的一首。
三十幾年前我參加美東一個醫師團赴中國作醫學交流,其中一位團員就是臺大合唱團團員。第一天早上就在西湖前教我們這曲,一路上成為團歌,最後在拉薩的歡送會,全團就是以這首歌回敬他們!
我在國外幾十年,想念台灣時,會尋求台灣的旋律,這首歌第一次出現在我腦中。幾年後,1965班畢業25年北美NTUH校友會由我同學朱真一在St Louis主辦,他要我幫忙,我就把它的變奏曲整理起來,獻給我班上同學。
台灣最偉大的作曲家蕭泰然也寫過它的變奏曲。此外一定還有其他人,輪不到我這位amateur!!

這時聊到台大地下校歌為望春風一事,其中一位學長是登山社的社員,與音樂性社團無任何淵源,他說以前在台大念書時,的確有把望春風視同學校校歌對待的傳統。
